World's Largest Utility Firm to Debut Blockchain-Powered Digital ID Platform

– Cryptonews

Tim Alper reports on the development of a digital identity system by the Anhui Province branch of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), which, he notes, is one of the biggest utility firms in the world

The utility has announced it aims to create a digital ID card that uses blockchain technology to verify users’ identities.

“The system will see all of the SGCC’s Anhui offices share data on a blockchain network with the province’s electric power information and communication center, as well as a number of other power supply companies based in the province.”

Alper observes the Anhui Province SGCC has been working with private firms and the central SGCC since 2018. He also notes the SGCC is working on building a blockchain “lab” and continues to register large numbers of blockchain-related patents.

The SGCC’s Anhui branch added that blockchain technology would help create an attack-resistant system that enhanced the security of ID authentication processes and improved management efficiency
