UN Pension Fund Launches Digital Identity Pilot Project

Susanna Rust of Investment & Pensions Europe (IPE) reports on the latest use of biometric registration for United Nations pension fund recipients to prevent fraud

As Rust notes, the The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) have run a “proof-of-concept prototype” combining biometrics and distributed ledger technology through blockchain.

"Following the success of the proof-of-concept prototype, the pension fund is taking steps to start a pilot project with a view, if successful, to implement the solution for all new retirees."

This pilot could be the first step for a United Nations organization - and for a pension fund - to move to a wholly distributed-ledger and biometric-based registration and verification system. Or as UNJSPF says, it can
