UK Government’s New Digital Identity System to Cost up to £400m

– ComputerWeekly

The UK’s Cabinet Office are seeking £400m for new digital ID program

The program, One Login, will be a single sign-on for identity verification and is envisioned to be compatible across gov.uk departments.

"Cabinet Office estimates suggest there are 44 different ways to log in to applications running on Gov.uk, with 190 different systems where citizens may have to re-enter the same data."

This new infrastructure, the UK government deems ‘critical’, is yet to be confirmed after the spending review.

If successful, One Login will be considered as critical national infrastructure, and will provide a standard way for citizens to prove their identity and log in to all government systems running on Gov.uk
