Over 6M Online Registrants for Philippines Digital ID So Far

– Biometric Update

Six million Filipinos have signed up for the country’s digital ID scheme online

The government introduced online enrolment in April as a response to the coronavirus pandemic in order to reduce crowding in physical centers.

“So far, over 37 million people overall have completed the Step 1 which principally has to do with the collection of demographic information of registrants, [while] over 16 million others are done with the Step 2, for which biometric information is captured.”

So far, over one million people have received their digital ID cards, but biometric capture, which takes place in person, is currently paused due to the country’s lockdown.

We envision the PhilSys to be a strong intervention in ensuring Filipinos have a valid proof of identity as a means of simplifying public and private transactions. This is the very reason why the law was passed and why the government wants to embark on such an ambitious and transformative project
