A 3-part series looking at forms of electronic and digital identification used by some Asian countries, in order to help Taiwan identify areas that it can improve its own digital ID experience

This report looks at the non-mandatory digital/mobile ID via smart devices in Singapore and South Korea.

“Like Singapore, South Korea is also seeing a rise in the use of digital or mobile identification apps, the difference being that the SingPass Mobile app is a government-initiated service while the provision of mobile ID services is privatized in South Korea.”

As the countries covered in this report grow increasingly reliant on technology to issue digital IDs, the author asks whether the individual government’s policies are able to catch up with the advancement of technology.

The digital ID experiences of these five countries reveal that many people still have reservations regarding the use of digital ID as they lack confidence in the law and the government’s ability to protect their personal data
