An in-depth critique of immunity passports from Privacy International

The flaws in using digital certificates to prove immunity from COVID-19 are outlined, including how there is not yet sufficient evidence that immunity can be satisfactorily proven - or will last - and that testing entire populations will be a monumental task.

“Without the knowledge of how immunity works, we cannot possibly yet say what the design should be.”

The article warns that many vulnerable groups will be excluded by the implementation of immunity certificates. It criticizes the opportunism of the identity industry in using the pandemic as a stepping stone to further its own goals of a universal digital identity.

The goal of the immunity passport has to be its role in public health and the easing of restrictions surrounding the lockdown; its goal should not be the spread of 'digital identity'
