A new e-residency scheme will allow foreign nationals to set up companies in Lithuania

The initiative will also let non-Lithuanians open bank accounts and pay taxes from their home countries.

“‘The e-residency [scheme] is in its final stage of completion, it will be tested on the Migration Department’s IT systems and will start operating after we make sure it functions properly,’ [a representative] said in a written comment.”

On becoming an e-resident, people will receive a unique digital ID that enables them to access public and commercial services. The scheme will operate much like Estonia’s e-residency service, which was established in 2014.

As of December 2020, the scheme in Estonia attracted some 75,000 people who opened almost 15,000 companies in six years, according to the country's public broadcaster ERR News
