Huduma Namba Cards to Replace ID Cards by End of 2021

Hilary Kimuyu reports on the upcoming rollout of Huduma Namba cards to all Kenyans over the next year, as announced by the Kenyan government

Kimuyu was reporting from the Mashujaa Day celebrations, in which President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta where presented with initial sample cards.

“The government on Wednesday announced that the current National Identification Card (ID card) will be phased out by December 12, 2021 and replaced by the Huduma Namba cards.”

Kimuyu notes over 38 million people have been registered with the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) that is tied to the cards.

“We are now ready to start issuing cards to Kenyans, so that they can start getting them online and stop the long queues in government offices,” the president said
