How Venezuelan arrivals to Guyana are being registered through an advanced biometric system

This article outlines the impact of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) biometric technology that Guyana is using to provide people fleeing Venezuela, who don’t have documents, with vital services.

“'Having this registration paper means that we have an identity,' said Maria, a Venezuelan woman who has lived in Guyana for more than a year."

The tool also allows Guyana authorities to identify and help the most vulnerable such as those with disabilities and members of the Warao, an indigenous people.

'I came to Immigration to get documentation, ID. I did not have any documents. I can use the documentation to go to the hospital and get the children in to school,' said Clemente, a Warao man who left Venezuela with his wife and children
