GSMA’s report on the benefits of well designed digital ID systems that are supported by public and private sectors

The GSMA’s Digital Identity program undertook research which revealed when systems are well built, they can provide good services to customers - whilst also making commercial gain and opportunities for network operators.

"It may also help governments meet public policy objectives and open access to life-enhancing services for previously underserved customers."

The research was undertaken within predominantly Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs), focusing on ID verification for SIM registration and Know Your Customer processes, to provide the mobile industry with an understanding of how to make these systems commercially sustainable and socially impactful.

The research aims to provide the mobile industry with benchmark costs and evidence of the benefits... also identified opportunities, beyond regulatory compliance, to offer commercially sustainable and socially impactful services
