Yoti is calling for Africa-based web developers to harness digital identity and amplify the voices of marginalized communities

The organization states that rural voices have historically been ignored in debates about natural resource management in Africa, but their perspectives and involvement are critical for conservation initiatives to succeed. Yoti’s challenge seeks to remedy this by supporting the development of an online platform that will allow communities to be heard and empowered, and help influence policy at all levels.

“It is believed that an online forum based on the concept of ‘verified identities’ of all participants will help foster authenticity, trust and raise confidence among participants that they are engaging with genuine Southern African community members in their own words, based on their lived realities and experiences as equals at the table.”

The challenge is open to Africa-based individuals and organizations, and the winning idea will receive $15,000.

If you would like to take part, please have a read of the African Conservation Challenge overview and submit an entry before the competition closes on the 30th May 2021
